Caption

This 15 m (50 ft) high octagonal gothic tower is set in a roundel of pine trees at the top of Keith’s Hill, overlooking the River Dee, in the parish of Durris in Aberdeenshire.

In 1824 the Durris estate became the property of the Gordon family. The estate had previously been leased to John Innes who objected to the early termination of his lease, especially as he had carried out extensive improvements on the estate.

The tower was erected in 1825 by Alexander, Duke of Gordon to commemorate the success of a lengthy and expensive lawsuit against John Innes who was subsequently ejected from the estate.
