Irishtown Nature Park - Red Trail

This 360-degree interactive panorama shows a short & straight section of the Red Trail (not far from the spillway bridge) in Irishtown Nature Park, located in the city of Moncton, in the province of New Brunswick. The park consists of 2,200 acres (8.9 sq km) of forest and 250 acres (1 sq km) of surface water and is one of the largest urban parks in Canada. It offers animals and plant life a wide variety of natural habitat, such as Acadian forests, wetlands, a lake, streams, etc. The lake was once used by Moncton as a drinking water reservoir in the middle of the 19th century.

The park also offers walking, hiking, cycling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails as well as access to the lake for canoeing and kayaking. Moncton’s Irishtown Nature Park is a very popular park any season of the year.

This panoramic image was captured in October, 2012. This is in the fall season here, when leaves "fall" from the trees after losing their usual green colour. Reduced sunlight results in a lower chlorophyll content in the leaves and they take on one of many shades of red or yellow. As winter approaches, the leaves become a multi-colour carpet and a subtle but distinctive odour fills the forest.

Parc naturel d'Irishtown - Sentier rouge
