The local building codes did require an Environmental Impact Report before construction started. As the construction site was located in natural wetland it was necessary to clear strip the building site and bring in non-expansive soils for the Hotel foundation. The story told to me was that the natural mangrove wetland was destroyed during construction.Local environmentalist got involved requiring the Hotel construction contractor to plant replacement mangroves to preserve the ecological balance for wildlife habitat.
