California's contributions to American culture are many, and especially obvious in music and movies.

The Museum of Monterey features the music and culture of the hippie 1960-70's with a "hippie" Volkswagen van. The movie Monterey Pop plays continuously, with its sounds of the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival - Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Janis Joplin, Ravi Shankar, Otis Redding, the Jefferson Airplane, and the Mamas and Papas.
