Art is undoubtedly one of the first things that comes to our minds when mentioning Culture, so I thought that I could contribute a panorama from the cultural trip I made to Italy last February with some colleagues and a group of students.

Siena Cathedral is one of the finest ones in Tuscany, Italy. Its construction took several centuries and many additions were made at every step. The biggest one (I am quoting Wikipedia) "was planned in 1339, and would have more than doubled the size of the structure by means of an entirely new nave and two aisles ranged perpendicular to the existing nave and centred on the high altar. The construction was begun under the direction of Giovanni di Agostino, better known as a sculptor. Construction was halted by the Black Death in 1348."

The façade—the riches of which my colleague tried to convey to our students—was also built in two stages.

Cultura y Arte

Arte eta Kultura
Artea da, dudarik gabe burura datorkigun lehenetako gauza Kultura aipatzen denean. Horregatik pentsatu nuen Kultura ebento honetarako erabil zitekeela joan den otsailean lankide eta ikasle talde batekin Italiara egindako bidai batean egin nituen argazkien bat.

Sienako katedrala Toskanako hoberenetakoa da. Hainbat mendetan zehar eraiki zen, eta etapa bakoitzean egitasmo berriak gehitzen zituzten. Handiena, 1339ean erabaki zuten: hiru aldiz handiagoa egin nahi zuten, eraikia zutena eliza berriaren kruzeroa bihurtuz. Hala ere, bertan bera utzi behar izan zuten guztia 1348ko izurrite beltzaren ondorioz. Bainan oraindik ere ikus daitezke proiektu erraldoi horren aztarnak.

Fatxada -zeinen aberastasuna ikasleei adierazten ene lankidea saiatzen den- bi faseetan ere eraiki zuten.
