Adjacent to Iowa City's thriving downtown business district, visitors can stroll around the University of Iowa's Pentacrest, an area of campus named for the five buildings located here. On Nov. 20, 2001, the gold dome of the historic "Old Capitol" building caught fire and was completely destroyed. You can read more about the fire and the rebuilding of this landmark. The Iowa City/Coralville area population is greater than 70,000 and swells to more than 100,000 on Hawkeye football weekends. This is a vibrant academic community, a home to diverse cultural events and a center of excellence for healthcare.
