This oversize bass fiddle is called an Octobass, it stands over 11.4 feet tall. Constructed about 1850 in Paris France the scale of this instrument was so big it took two musicians to play it. One handled the three strings thru a intricate system of hand and foot activated levers and pedals and the other the bow. Because of it's immense size the Octobass was never mass produced. This particular Octobass is located at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. There is another Octobass located in Paris. The lowest string on this instrument was tuned on the music scale to C1, the middle string was tuned to G1 and the uppermost string was tuned to C2.
