I. M. Pei’s Society Hill Towers rise from a hill at the edge of the Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. Pei’s plans were the winning design for the Washington Square East Urban Renewal Project in the 1950s.
Incidentally, a security guard came out of one of the buildings to tell me that photographs were not allowed of the buildings giving the reason that “people live here,” but that I was free to take photographs from the bottom of the hill (about 50 meters away).
