The Gasholders development, located next to Regent’s Canal in the King’s Cross area of central London, features three modern part-cylindrical residential buildings situated within three conjoined, cylindrical Victorian gasholder guide frames.

The cast iron guide frames were originally constructed in 1879-1880 for gasholders at the former nearby Imperial Gas Light and Coke Company’s Pancras Gas Works. The gas works, which ceased production in 1902, produced gas from coal, delivered to the works by barges on the canal.

The guide frames from former gasholders No’s 10, 11 and 12 were dismantled and have now been refurbished to form part of the new Gasholder residential development.

The guide frame from former gasholder No 8 has been refurbished and re-erected as a prominent feature in the adjacent circular Gasholder Park, that can be seen to the left of the gasholder buildings.

More information about the heritage and architecture of the gasholders can be found here.
