This is a pond at the top of Independence Pass on the continental divide. From this point, water on the west flows into the Roaring Fork River then joins the Colorado River on its path to the Pacific Ocean. Water on the east side flows into the Arkansas River, then joins the great Mississippi on its journey to the Atlantic Ocean.
