The Laguna Negra is a favourite with both mountains and litterature lovers. According to the Spanish Wikipedia entry about it, local lore had it the lagoon was fathomless, that a hideous creature used to devour everything that went into it, that it was connected to the sea through a vast reseau of underground caverns and so on. Even the great Spanish poet Antonio Machado gave it a prominent place in his The Land of Alvargonzález. All this made me think the lagoon was a suitable subject for my entry to this 'Unique' Solstice WWP.

Don't ask me why this beautifully green lagoon is called "Black"!!! It probably must look like that in the winter -surrounded by snow and under a gloomy sky- but on the day this picture was shot we had a warm and bright day with cotton-like white clouds drifting swiftly through the sky, as you may see in the small virtual tour I've prepared on my site: Laguna Negra Virtual Tour .
