Exceptional tree : Taxodium distichum is one of the few trees to produce pneumatophores, or aerial roots, at its base, above the water’s surface when the water level rises to a critically high level; this enables it to obtain the oxygen it needs to survive.
The formation of these pneumatophores creates a unique and visually striking sight, resembling a miniature landscape of mountains and hills.
Rare, strange and beautiful.
Taxodium distichum ( french: cyprès chauve; english: Bald cypress or Swamp cypress; german: Sumpfzypresse )
