Located at the northern end of the Bearskin-Hiawatha State Trail, the Minocqua trestle is one of the many bridges on this former railroad route turned recreation trail. Used by bicyclists, pedestrians and fishermen during the summer and skiers and snowmobilers during the winter, the Bearskin-Hiawatha trail was once used by trains carrying timber from northern Wisconsin to Chicago during the mid to late 1800's. Later on, northern Wisconsin, having one of the highest concentrations of lakes in the world, became the playground of Chicago's wealthy and famous. While trains no longer bring tourists to the area, the area is still poplar as a summer and winter getaway. You can learn more about the Bearskin-Hiawatha State Trail at Wisconsin's travel website TravelWisconsin.com
