Before actors can "break a leg," someone makes something for them to stand on, or in front of, or behind, or under...

The construction of stages, scenery, props, and all that kind of thing takes place behind the scenes, in a shop such as this one.

(If one looks carefully, one might see some interesting items from past productions scattered here and there.)

Cornell University's Schwartz Center for Theater Arts provides a home for the theatre, film, and dance departments as well as various associated programs and offices.

Opened 21 years ago, the Center contains four theatres ranging in size from from 100 to 450 seats. In addition to the scene shop, it houses classrooms, dance studios, a costume shop, and a photo lab.

It's just off the south edge of the main campus in Ithaca, New York, between the Law School and Collegetown.

Visit the Schwartz Center web site for schedules and tickets.
