This view from ancient Panama city (Panama Viejo) to the new city (Coco del Mar, Paitilla, Costa del Este) bridges centuries.

Where the historical parts have scaffolds to protect them from falling over the new city is seen in the background. Skyscrapers over skyscrapers—some low buildings in between still available though. How can a contrast be greater?

App. 1530 constructed and after a great fire and various assaults there is still something left from the old buildings—now scaffolded. The clouds at the rim look as if they are already preparing for further corrosion.

Who knows how this scenery will look 500 years later? The skyscrapers may be history by then—certainly unsupported by any kind of construction.
