Steam Locomotive 52 4867

Eppstein is celebrating the completion of the new tunnel and the rebuilding of the railway station. It took years to first renovate the station building, then build the new tunnel parallel to the old one and finally switch the rails to the new tunnel and make the station platforms new to fit to the new rails.

In March 2011 I was already here to take a panorama of the construction site in the new tunnel .

Now all work is finished and for the occasion of the official opening celebration of the new station, a historic train is running for one day among the other normal modern trains.

The locomotive and the waggons are maintained and run by the Historische Eisenbahn Frankfurt. The steam locomotive was built in 1943. 52 is the model number and 4867 is the individual number of this steam locomotive.

This morning we took the first old train to Idstein and back, and now is panorama time on the platform ...
