I was born and raised in Cividale del Friuli. Even though I primarily work outside the city, it is the place where I feel best. There are many places that give me the sense of security, peace, and tranquillity, and some of them are already part of my photographs that you can see on this website... So, I decided to capture a very characteristic part: this is Stretta della Giudaica, which is the place in the town where the Jews of Cividale lived. Here are some historical notes...

The Jews arrived in Cividale del Friuli, where they obtained the protection of the powerful de' Portis family, in 1273, during the time of the Milanese patriarch Raimondo della Torre. Already in 1321, they began efforts to build their own synagogue, but it was never completed; it ended up being incorporated into the Monastery building in 1519. The Jews had been unjustly accused of committing disrespectful acts towards the Christian religion, and Patriarch Bertrando halted the construction work.
