Solar eclipses have always given rise to a wide variety of myths and legends, some of which tell of deception and theft to explain the sun’s disappearance.
Yet still today, the moment of maximum coverage was greeted with applause, even though we know that it is merely the alignment of two celestial bodies in the observer’s line of sight.
Later, the sun set, still partially eclipsed, looking just like a giant shark’s fin. You can see it if you look up towards the zenith.
After our solar eclipse sunset picnic, we stayed on the Gießhübel to watch the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. There were two very bright fireballs, which I unfortunately didn’t manage to capture on camera.
