Deception

  • Are these just artistic symbols of human imagination or are they deceiving us from the reality of existence?
  • Does viewing these sculptures and thinking about the philosophy make us better people?
  • Is artistic expression, religion, philosophy a deception.
  • Are some deceptions good?

Walking through the forest finding unique statues with information panels at strategic locations along the foot path.  I was lucky no other people were walking the path. (50 photos)

Did this forest location, beautiful autumn day deceive me into thinking the world was at peace? It did.

My mind, body and soul felt better after spending a couple of hours at the Humanics Sanctuary and Sculpture Park, located in the extreme east end of Ottawa about 30 minutes east of Parliament.

Sculptures are carefully placed in a natural nine-acre setting on a wooded ravine with walking trails and quaint bridges over a meandering creek.

Sculptures representing themes on the human condition, philosophic concepts and imagery representative of various faiths from around the world are integrated with nature. The park offers walking trails and areas for reflection and meditation.

The Humanics Sanctuary and Sculpture Park is a multi-cultural, multi-faith, multi-generational place for reflection, meditation, education, prayer and appreciation of nature.

Land acknowledgment:

The Humanics Sanctuary and Sculpture Park is located on the traditional unceded, unsurrendered homeland of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg Nation. The Algonquin have inhabited the Ottawa River Valley for at least 8,000 years.

Maintaining the values of conservation and treating the land with respect, we appreciate this forest for it’s beauty and serenity that makes the sanctuary even more special.
