Taken on the grounds of Liberty Island where the Statue of Liberty resides in New York Harbor, this panorama reveals the not so distant skyline of New York City as well as a back view of "Lady Liberty" . On March 20, 2004 the interior of the Statue of Liberty remains closed to visitors as it has since September 11, 2001. Liberty Island remains, however, a popular attraction on a route that also includes Ellis Island, the former portal into the U.S for many newcomers to the United States. The Statue stands facing the incoming ships, greeting all visitors who enter the harbor from the east. Plans now indicate that the Statue will be opened to the public once again during the summer of 2004 so visitors will soon again be able to climb to the top and enjoy a fantastic view of the Harbor and New York City.
