The Danube River, 1770 miles long, is the second largest river in Europe next to the Volga. It is the only major river in Europe that flows west to east. The source of the Danube is Black Forest Mountains of Germany and it empties into the Black Sea on the Romanian coast.

The Danube River has served as a vital commercial highway between the nations it borders for centuries. Freight transport, hydroelectricity, water supplies, irrigation, and fishing are all found on the Danube.

I took this panorama from the bow of our cruise ship at the end of a seven day trip beginning in Nuremburg, Germany. Our ship was docked along with several others in Budapest, Hungary.
