In the middle of April 2015, I travelled to Cabo Verde and spent a fortnight on São Vicente and Santo Antão, both islands of the archipelago’s northern part.

I was very impressed by the wild beauty of Santo Antão, its sudden climate changing, its silver skies, its difficult terrain and the presence of the rebellious Atlantic throwing furious, roaring and growling waves at the coast, its isolated villages dominated by mountainous slopes.

Maybe the opposite of paradise ?

This panorama was taken in the afternoon in a village called in Ribeira Grande, when young pupils, girls and boys, become free again from school and allowed to go back to their homes. Three kids on the image are scurrying so fast that I wondered why they hustle. What are they running away from? Just going to a place where they’re able to play with their familiar toys again or perhaps awaiting some good sweet snacks at home. Amazing view of energy spent on this rugged and hilly way.

Even though I liked this panorama, I didn’t choose it for the “Best of” 2015, because in June, for the event “New” I had been already contributing with another one taken at about two or three miles away from this place, showing a better view on the ocean and fishermen under a very heavy sky cleaning fish after a night spent at sea.
