This is at the entrance to the Mitchell Point Tunnel. Mitchell Point has been a popular viewpoint in the Columbia River Gorge for some time, and my “Best of 2010” entry was taken there. Since then, a new tunnel was constructed near the viewpoint. The new tunnel “mimics the historic crossing at Mitchell Point and connects to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail”

The tunnel itself is about 655 feet long and has five arched windows that give scenic views of the Columbia River. The curved run and dark interior broken by scenic windows create an interesting environment that might work for a future panorama.

My original goal for this picture was to create another photoportal and include appropriate links, like I did with my last WWP entry for “Why”. However, the picture that I took looking up the gorge didn’t come out as well as I would have liked. It was cold and windy, and I was moving a little too fast. Creating the visually linked photo and sphere is still not a well-practiced process. Looks like we’ll be taking another trip there, because I’d still like to make it work.
