Almondell Estate was the home of the notable lawyer, Henry Erskine, who built a house here in 1812 surrounded by extensive private grounds. The estate was broken-up in 1969, the house demolished, and the parkland was then maintained as a public space by local government as Almondell and Calderwood Country Park.Today the public can enjoy the ground around the Visitor Center and the River Almond, but much of the park, away from hustle and bustle, is managed in a sensitive way like this secluded path which offers a delightful way through the trees and leafy canopy.
