The Siaolin Night Festival that is held on September 15th of the Lunar Calendar is the most well-preserved among other similar festivities of the Taiwanese Plains Aborigines. The festival is meant to pay homage to the ancestors of the Daman people, a branch of the Taiwanese Plains Aborigines.

The attendees of the event wear traditional ornaments and clothes, gather in a circle and sing traditional songs while performing an ancient dance. Afterwards, they share steamed sticky rice. As the villagers’ homes were destroyed when Typhoon Morakot hit in 2009, they were not able to organize and hold a full festival until 2011. The one in 2011 was of great significance for the survivors of the disaster.
