Every day, except Sunday, from 2 to 8 o’clock a.m. the wholesale-market for flowers is taking place right in the center of Hamburg, near the railroad tracks close to central station. It is one of the biggest traditional wholesale-markets for flowers in Germany, the surface of its halls is about 24.000 m².

The historical roots of the market are at the end of the 18 century, where they started selling and buying plants, flowers, seeds and fruits on a marketplace called Hopfenmarkt in Hamburg. In 1914 a hall was built and in 1984 the market moved into a new hall, where it is happening until today just beside the separated wholesale market for vegetables and fruits.

I really like the atmosphere of this market and although it was quite early in the morning (I made my panos bwtween 4 and 7 o’clock) it is a very fresh and lively atmosphere.
