From Small Beginnings Big Things Grow

In 1865 Richard Schomburgk started work as the second director of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens in South Australia.

He planted a wide variety of trees, including European and North American forest trees - ashes, oaks, birches, limes and pines as well as Australian native trees, Moreton Bay figs and plane trees.

By 1877 he had planted 9000 tree saplings in the Botanic Gardens.

From these small beginnings grew massive, beautiful trees such as the one shown in the panorama.
