The power plant was planned by Oskar von Miller at the end of the 19th century. He wanted to use the height difference of 200m between the Walchensee and the Kochelsee to produce electric energy. The final decision to build this power plant was done right after WW1. It was erect during the inflation and it was very difficult to build.
It produced the first energy at January, 24th, 1924. The capacity is 124 MW.
