The Italian Chapel is all that remains of Camp 60 where Italian prisoners of war were held during WWII.

The Italians were helping to build causeways between four of Orkney's south isles. During their spare time they built the chapel so they would have somewhere to worship.

The chapel is built from two Nissen huts laid end to end and decorated inside. A tromp l'oeil technique was used for the carvings and brickwork, the lampshades are made from bully beef tins, some of the ironwork was from iron salvaged from block ships. Most of the interior decoration was done by Domenico Chiocchetti, from Moena, the picture above the alter was copied from a small picture his mother had given him before he went off to war.
