The Christmas Eve Farolito Walk on iconic Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico is a holiday tradition.  Thousands of Farolitos are set out to illuminate centuries-old buildings, walks, adobe walls and gardens.  A Farolito (trans. Spanish "little lantern') is a lantern made using a small paper bag weighted with sand and illuminated with a candle.  The term farolito is preferred in Santa Fe, but elsewhere they are called luminarias.

The walk starts at sundown and includes Canyon Road, Acequia Madre and connecting streets.  Most of the streets in the area are closed to traffic and parking for the event.
